Your host at Nootka Gold B&B is Silvie Keen.  
 
Silvie is a traveller with a passion for food.  Or a chef with a passion for travel.  Either way, she appreciates why people want to explore new places, and how good food and warm hospitality can make a world of difference to any holiday experience.

Silvie's gypsy soul emerged early - at 16 she got on a Greyhound bus to visit relatives in central Canada, but somehow found herself in Alabama, sampling bbq 'pig' with her new GI friends, just returned from Vietnam.  Silvie's mom was somewhat horrified.  But it all worked out, and that experience kick-started a life-long love for food and travel.  

With a strong background in office administration, and a decent salary to fund the trips, Silvie left the desk behind one last time to realize her calling.  She graduated from Vancouver's Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts in 2002. 

Her work initially took her to the Beach Side Cafe in West Vancouver, where she built many a fine-dining dessert and learned the lunch line.  A couple of catering gigs followed between times, and then off on a Caribbean adventure working for the St. Kitts Marriott Resort. There, Silvie, Slicer of Fruit, did just that.  A lovely place to visit, but Vancouver is truly a glorious place to live.  Back on the coast, she landed a job at sea - as a personal chef on a private luxury yacht.  Winter winds prevailed, and Silvie moved to Bermuda.  At the Barracuda Grill, she was Chef de Partie, Garde Manger.  She tossed salads, crafted appies and plated desserts for the likes of Michael Douglas, his beautiful wife CZJ, and NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg. 

Two years in Bermie, and two more of soul searching, Silvie experienced that 'Aha' moment that Oprah is always going on about.  And Silvie now knows why: “Aha, a B&B”.  Host travellers, play with food, work from home, don’t worry be happy.  Silvie welcomes you to her home, her B&B, and wishes you good winds and happy trails.
